Ultimate Guide to Switzerland’s Hidden Gems Most Tourists Miss
Switzerland is famous for Zurich, Geneva Interlaken und Lucerne and of course the mountains. But beyond these iconic spots are waiting Switzerland’s true hidden gems and a world of underrated beauty for you. As a native Swiss Person, I want to introduce you to places you have not heard about but are worth a visit. These places offer authentic charm, dramatic landscape and fewer crowds.
Hidden Natural Wonders
Aareschlucht Gorge (Bernese Oberland)
The Aareschlucht is one of my personal favorites. It is a 1 hour walk one way where you walk through a narrow limestone canyon and formations with the beautiful crystal clear and turquoise water of the Aare River besides you. There are wooden walkways, dramatic cliffs and not a lot of people that await you there.

Val Verzasca (Ticino)
The Val Verzasca is a remote alpine valley in Ticino with a stunning river running through it and charming ancient stone villages. It is the perfect spot for hikers and nature lovers. You can either just chill at the riverbed and enjoy the sun and the beauty or you can walk alongside it. There are a few different hiking routes from short hikes to long adventures. Creux du Van (Neuchâtel)
Also called the Grand Canyon of Switzerland, Creux du Van is a natural rock amphitheater. Hiking there is truly a one of a kind experience. You have this stunning rock formation, a quite forest nearby with the possibility to see squirrels, foxes and even wild deer’s. I hloved hiking there and can absolutely recommend it, I would particularly say it is perfect for photography and sunrise hikes.

Solothurn – The Most Beautiful Baroque Town in Switzerland
The town of Solothurn has very rich architecture and old history. You will see beautiful facades, clock towers and can enjoy a coffee at one of the many boutique cafés. Surprisingly you will almost find no tourists in Solothurn which means you can enjoy it without big crowds.
Ballenberg Open-Air Museum
This is the perfect museum for families and everyone that is interested in the Swiss heritage. The Museum showcases old traditional Swiss houses from different regions. You can immerse yourself in the past and can feel and see the living history, how they crafted everything and how they farmed.
Locarno – The Jewel of Lake Maggiore
Locarno feels very different than the rest of Switzerland. Due to the fact that it is in Ticino which is the Italian part of Switzerland. None the less I think it is a very cute and different vibe and I love it. You will find stunning houses, beautiful lake views and very good food.

Appenzell Cheese Village
Switzerland is famous for Cheese and in Appenzell there is a whole village focusing on it. You can go and lookt into the art of making Cheese at dairies. You will stroll along beautiful colorful houses and nature and can experience the local Tradition. This is something far from the mainstream trail and worth a visit.
Ticino Grotto Restaurants
Can you imagine yourself eating at a small stone restaurant where every meal feels like a hug? This is exactly what a grotto feels like. Meals like risotto, brasato and polenta that taste and feel like a home cooked meal.

Unique Experiences Tourists Overlook
Stoos Ridge Hike
The Stoos has an amazing panoramic ridge walk. You can see multiple lakes and peaks and is just a hikers dream and with a fraction of the crowds compared to the major hubs like Zermatt and Gstaad. It is also a hike that can easily be done of you are not an experienced hiker or have children with you.

Montreux Riviera’s Secret Steps & Vineyards
A lot of the time Montreux is overlooked not only by tourist but also by Swiss Poeople. It is a very cute little town on lake Geneva. Just walk around and you will find a lot of cute cafes, Restaurants and a beautiful lakefront.

- Explore small villages between major hubs. Risk it and get yourself stranded somewhere. You can have the best adventures.
- Stay in local guesthouses instead of big hotels. The locals will be more than happy to give you insider tips.

For me Switzerland is just magical especially the places that are often forgotten or lie beyond the famous peaks and cities. I encourage you slow down and go off the beaten path and discover the true hidden gems of this beautiful country.
