It just means getting a little creative. In this post, we’ll dive into tried-and-tested tips and hacks that will help you stretch your money while still making unforgettable memories. If you want to read about How to save up for a Trip i focus on that in this Blogpost.. Right now we are in the midst of planning to travel for 3 months next year and of course one of the big questions is about Budget. Let me give you my tips on how I backpack on a budget to see more of the world..
Plan Smart, Travel Smarter
With a good planning you can really save some cash. I always use aps like Skyscanner, booking and hostelword so find the best deals on accommodation and flights. Sometimes there are quite big differences in the prices.
What is also a huge money saver is, if you travel in shoulder or even off season. The prices for flight, transport and hotels are much cheaper. Sometimes even tours and experiences will be cheaper. I always try to travel in shoulder season. Most of the time the weather is still amazing and it’s a huge money saver.
Cheap Flights & Transport Hacks
With flights it’s kind of tricky to find the right time to book. You will read everything from Monday night to Tuesday morning. I personally always set flight alerts and monitor the prices. Booking.com is my go-to side to check out the different prices. But important is to do this in incognito mode. If you have VPN you can even change the location. I always also look at nearby airports that maybe offer cheaper flights.
If you need to travel inland you can also consider to take an overnight bus or train. This way you save on accommodation costs and the busses and trains are cheaper most of the time.

Affordable Accommodation Tips
I am not the biggest fan of couch surfing or house sitting, I am way to scared. But these are good options if you are up to it. But you don’t need that you have an affordable accommodation. I always use comparison sites to get the best deal. Also sometimes booking a homestay or hotel can be cheaper than a hostel. You just need to search for the bets deals. I also always try to stay not in the center of the tourist zone. It will be more affordable the farther you will be away.
Eating Well Without Breaking the Bank
Eating like a local especially street food or in food market can save you a lot of money. And personally I love to experience the culture and the people. You really get to know the place and the people when you eat like a local and talk with them.
You can also book an apartment a kitchen that you can cook you own food.
On a side note, cutting back on the booze is also a huge money saver. Even though one dinks might be cheap it quickly adds up.

Free and Low-Cost Experiences
Personally I just love to stroll around and explore hidden gems. But in a lot of cities there are even free walking tours with a guide. Of course you should tip the guide but It is definitely a really good option. Also hiking is always a really nice option.
If you are flexible there are a lot of museums that offer half price or even free entry days. Always check the website if there is this option.
When you plan to stay longer in one place. Look into volunteering programs. Often they offer free accommodation and meals. This could be a good option.

Stay Safe, Stay Insured
Travel insurance is non-negotiable—don’t skip it to save. If something happens you will be glad that you have one. Here are some good options for travel insurance companies. But always ask you main health insurance of they have a travel option.
Know the basic scams in the region you are travelling to. Knowing beforehand could get you out of trouble and help not to fall for one.
I always have digital and printed copies of every important document like passport, driving license, visas etc. I also heard the trick to keep an expired passport with you to give to the hotel or scooter rent if they ask for it.
Money-Saving Gear Essentials
If you are able to travel with a carry on this is a great way to save some money. What my Partner and I are doing is to pack one big Backpack for the two of us and then use the carry on. This way we can save on one of the checked luggage fee.
Also a great way to save some coins and is good for the environment is to always use a reusable water bottle. If you are in a country where you can’t drink the Tap water. I like to buy the big chugs of water and fill It up.

Mindset: The True Budget Traveler’s Tool
The last things is the Mindset. You can have all the plans and the budget but if you don’t stay to it all the planning was for nothing. I would say embrace the unexpected and stay flexible. Also connect with other travelers to share tips or even split costs.
And lastly what my whole motivation is; Prioritize experiences
